Equine Manager
Reports To: Executive Director
Status: 30 hours per week, Exempt
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Wage: $25.00 per hour
Position Summary:
The Equine Manager supports the mission, vision, values, and service standards of Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding & Horsemanship (CTRH). This position has primary responsibility for the care, training, and management of CTRH horses and for supervising barn staff and volunteers to ensure safe, high-quality equine operations in accordance with PATH Intl. standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Equine Care & Facility Management

Maintain the overall health, wellness, and appearance of CTRH horses, providing hands-on care as needed
-
Schedule and attend regular veterinary, farrier, chiropractic, and dental appointments
-
Ensure compliance with PATH Intl. standards for horse health, facilities, and recordkeeping
-
Maintain accurate and complete horse records in accordance with CTRH policies and procedures
-
Oversee daily feeding, turnout, and barn chores (Monday–Friday)

Maintain stables, arenas, pastures, and barn areas
Tack, Equipment & Supplies
-
Manage tack room organization, cleanliness, and maintenance
-
Ensure all tack is properly fitted and in good repair
-
Oversee cleaning of tack and equipment, including regular washing of saddle pads

Organize and monitor barn and horse supply inventory
Staff & Volunteer Supervision
-
Schedule, train, and supervise barn staff and volunteers

Schedule, train, and supervise Exercise Riders
-
Assist with Horse Leader and Exercise Rider training and testing
-
Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment
-
Hold effective team meetings as needed
Horse Training & Program Support
-
Develop and implement training and conditioning programs for program horses
-
Locate and screen potential program horses
-
Communicate regularly with staff regarding equine status and needs
-
Assist staff in maintaining a safe environment for participants and volunteers
Administrative & Organizational Responsibilities
-
Assist in creating, monitoring, and updating equine-related policies and procedures in compliance with PATH standards

Provide reports as requested

Uphold all guidelines outlined in the CTRH Employee Handbook
-
Attend designated meetings, training, and in-services
-
Ability to respond to equine-related emergencies seven (7) days per week

Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Board of Directors
Education
-
High school diploma or equivalent required
Certification, Licensure & Registration
-
Valid driver’s license required
-
Must maintain valid auto insurance
Experience
-
Two (2) to three (3) years of barn management experience
-
Experience in horse training and conditioning required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
-
Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Email, etc.)

Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
-
Ability to present information clearly and respond to questions from staff, volunteers, clients, families, partners, and the public

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze information and draw sound conclusions

Professional demeanor and positive attitude
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
-
Ability to work physically active days in all weather conditions — sun, heat, and cold
-
Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks.
